Grow A Rainbow
1. You will need: one plate, a piece of kitchen roll, felt tip pens, scissors and 2 small bowls of water 2. Fold the piece of kitchen roll in half and cut into a rainbow shape 3. Colour a rainbow with felt tips about 2cm up on both sides 4. Place each end of the rainbow into a bowl of water so that the ends are slightly submerged 5. Watch your rainbow grow! Then place it on a plate to dry
How does it work?
Capillary action is the movement of a liquid through or along another material against an opposing force, such as gravity. Examples of capillary action in water include water moving up a straw moving through a paper towel, moving through a plant, and tears moving through tear ducts.
