Heritage for Doncaster: Connecting Communities, Improving Lives

In April 2018 Heritage Doncaster became an Arts Council National Portfolio Organisation (NPO).  The funding received from the Arts Council has enabled us to launch Heritage for Doncaster: Connecting Communities, Improving Lives – a programme of work tackling individual and community isolation in four key areas of Doncaster.

The project uses museum collections and heritage activities to engage with communities throughout the Borough, including those in:

  • Woodlands/Carcroft/Adwick-Le-Street
  • Stainforth/Dunscroft/Hatfield/Thorne
  • Hexthorpe/Balby

This programme builds upon community engagement already undertaken through the Heritage Lottery Funded Doncaster 1914-18 project and the Arts Council’s Resilience Fund.

Working with academic partners, we will rigorously evaluate the health and wellbeing outcomes of this project – the results of which will be published as part of a growing body of research into the contribution that museums can make to people’s health and wellbeing.

Check back for more updates as the project gets underway.  For further information, please email us.
