Develop your skills, discover new ones, and share your passion for the past by volunteering with Heritage Doncaster.
We aim to offer volunteer opportunities that are interesting and fun and can often help to build your CV. Volunteering is a great way to build skills and confidence and to learn something new. It also makes you feel good!
We offer on-going training opportunities for our volunteers and hold socials throughout the year, including trips, picnics and coffee mornings.
We welcome volunteers of all abilities and from all backgrounds. Training is provided, so you don’t need any specialist knowledge, just a willingness to learn and a genuine interest.
Volunteers are a vital support to the service and roles are available at all of our sites. There are lots of opportunities to get involved:
- Bring local history to life at events and education workshops
- Research the fascinating items in our collections
- Put your green fingers to the test as a gardener at Cusworth Park
- Develop your digital skills by scanning and photographing objects, letters, and photographs
Over 50 volunteers have already given their time to support the service, including students, job-seekers and people volunteering in their retirement. Complete our volunteer application form and we’ll work with you to find a role suited to your skills and interests.
What our volunteers say
“I’ve learnt a host of new skills and made use of the ones I already had. Volunteering got me out of the rut I was falling into after my parents died, giving me a new interest and a new enthusiasm.” Lynda, Doncaster 1914-18 volunteer.
“It’s always nice to have a reason to get out of the house and mix with people, and it has taught me a lot of research-based skills you don’t learn at school or university.” Mat, research and digitisation volunteer.
