Many herbs, such as the chamomile and mint that we have here, are valued for their magical and medicinal properties, and were used in traditional medicines, healing remedies, and protective amulets. Many are still used today for a variety of purposes. For example, according to the NHS, peppermint oil can be an effective treatment for indigestion and IBS because it helps to relax the muscles in the bowel. Chamomile is often associated with supporting sleep, and lavender is used in aromatherapy due to its relaxing properties. Rosemary is used in incense, and is also sometimes used in amulets and charms as some believe it has protective properties. Some Indigenous American groups burn sage in order to purify a space and cleanse it of negative energy.
