This is the story of how the railways came to Doncaster and the effect they had on the sleepy market town; how Doncaster became one of the most important junctions on the entire rail network; the growth of industries as a result of the coming of the railways and the effect on the local economy. In an interesting twist, the talk also postulates what kind of place Doncaster might be today had the railways not come in the way they did.
