Free Half Term Activity in Thorne and Mexborough
Museums of the Future

Danum Gallery Library and Museum is hosting free, fun, family activities this February half term in Thorne and Mexborough.
Join us for creative hands-on workshops for children aged 7-11 and their families, to explore what museums are, what museums mean to you and what the ‘museums of the future’ will look like.
Bring in an object from home that you would display in a museum in 50 years to tell people what life is like today (Objects will go home with you after the session). This could be a toy, a book, an item in the home, some clothing, it is their choice.
At the session you will:
- Explore objects from Doncaster museum collections from 50 years ago
- Share your object from home
- Use creative writing to create display labels for objects
- Create a display for Museums of the Future using a variety of craft materials
The workshops will take place:
- Thorne Library, The Vermuyden Centre, Fieldside, Thorne, Doncaster, DN8 4BQ | Tuesday 14th February 2023 | 10 am – 12 noon | Book your free places
- Mexborough Library, John Street, Mexborough S64 9HS | Thursday 16th February 2023 | 10 am – 12 noon | Book your free places
The ideas of the young people will be displayed in an online exhibition on the Danum Gallery, Library and Museum website. The feedback gathered will have a direct impact on the type of objects that Doncaster museums will collect and display in the future and the stories that they will tell.
