Mother Hookers are working with Doncaster Culture Services to attract local makers to help add a splash of colour to the Community Garden at Danum Gallery Library Museum.

Anyone interested in knitting or crochet can get involve in making a yarn garden. Simply pick up some free wool from central library, find a nature related pattern, and get making.

On the 1 February 28 makers gathered together to start making their colourful creations including: flowers, leaves, beehives, bird houses, birds in nests, caterpillars, hedgehogs.

Some other ideas include i.e., butterflies, bees, snails, ladybirds, bugs, toadstools, frogs, fairy doors, mice, acorns, etc. These can be knitted, crocheted, or made of fabric.

The Mother Hookers are a free social club for local makers , they meet every Monday at 10am in the Cafe 1910 at Danum Gallery Library Museum.

There is a Yarn Garden gathering happening on Saturday 8th March 2025 11am -2pm for makers to come together, finish off and hand in the donations of work they created. Or you can drop off your creations at Danum before then.

The Mother Hookers will install the Yarn Garden on Monday 10th March, and Monday 17th March. Just in time to welcome spring.

The wool being supplied has been sourced from ‘Wool and much much more!’ in Doncaster.

This activity is made possible by the Culture Nature project that has been funded by Libraries Connected and Natural England – to help people connect with nature.

This projects is also funding 6 free workshops for adults delivered by Growing Together CIC to help create a new growing area in the Danum Community Garden.
