Bringing the Gardens Back to Life
Heritage Doncaster is working with The Cusworth Hall Gardens Trust1 to restore the walled gardens which have been described as of one of the most atmospheric places in Doncaster.

Tickets can be purchased at the Walled Garden entrance. Season tickets are also available at the Friends of Cusworth Park (FOCP) monthly talks held at Cusworth Hall.
About Cusworth Walled Gardens
Until recently they were in a derelict state but with support from the Trust the Cusworth Park team has already helped to clear away vegetation and restore the bowling green and undertake other necessary work.
The Trust has part funded essential restoration of the bowling pavilion and supported two apprenticeships. With the help of the local community the ambition is to fully restore the site and bring it into use.
Creating a vibrant place for family activities this will offer a wide range of opportunities ranging from discovering what life was like for the gardeners to actually producing crops on site. Underpinning this will be the chance to learn new skills and meet people.
Cusworth walled gardens include one of the country’s earliest bowling greens, a 300 year old summer house, flower garden, vegetable garden and orchards.
It was once busy with an army of gardeners growing vegetables and exotic fruit such as peaches, figs, melons and pineapples for the Battie-Wrightson family who lived at the Grade I listed Cusworth Hall. It survived, despite the impact of two world wars, death duties and the great depression, until the early 1960s when it ceased to be used and was sold off piecemeal/ It

Friends of Cusworth Park (FOCP) – Supporting the Walled Garden
The Friends of Cusworth Park (FOCP) have actively supported the Walled Garden through fundraising efforts. Their contributions have helped supply plants for the Flower Garden and provide botanical nameplates for all plant species within the garden.
In 2026, FOCP aims to raise funds to introduce beehives to the garden. Looking ahead, they plan to launch a fundraising appeal to purchase a Victorian villa-style greenhouse, enhancing the garden’s historical character and horticultural potential.
All proceeds raised by FOCP are reinvested directly into Cusworth Park and the Walled Garden at Cusworth Hall, helping preserve and develop this cherished community space.

Parking for Cusworth Walled Gardens is in the main Cusworth Hall and Park car park.
Directions from there; head from the car park toward Cusworth Hall, take the tarmac pathway sloping down shrubbery walk to the black gate. At the junction of the pathways turn left and walk along the straight pathway for approx..75metres. You will then turn left again onto gravel pathway leading to the new decorative walled garden gate.
