Arrivals: Daphne Richards
Daphne Richards came to England in October 1961 aged 20. She had successfully applied for nursing training in the UK whilst in Antigua.
After her arrival she travelled to Luton, where she began her nurse training at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital along with four other ladies from Antigua pursuing the same career path. Following three years of training Daphne began a further year of study to become a midwife. After completion of training Daphne qualified as a midwife acquiring state certified midwife status. Daphne worked for the National Health Service for 29 years, leaving the NHS has a senior midwife. During her time Daphne has helped in the training of many of today’s midwives currently working at Doncaster Royal Infirmary.
