Arrivals: Gordon Leow

Gordon was 24 when he arrived in the UK in July 1961.  He arrived in Southampton on the Spanish passenger ship SS Marcus de Commulus after four weeks of sailing across the Atlantic. The ship sailed via Cuba during the Castro Revolution, although Gordon was not involved.

Gordon at first lived in London but found it difficult to find suitable work. He enlisted in the RAF and began training as a mechanic, fulfilling a life-long dream. Gordon served for ten years in the RAF before finding work as a self-employed mechanic.

He moved to Doncaster in 2002 where he has settled in to his retirement.

Gordon has enjoyed his time living in England and says it has been good for him and his family.
