Workshop One

Let’s Discover – The Romans in Doncaster

Subject: History

Length: 1.5 – 2 hours

Key Stage: KS2

Location: Danum Gallery Library and Museum

Synopsis

Learn about Ancient Roman culture. Find out why the Romans invaded Britain and why they decided to settle in Doncaster.

During this workshop pupils will have the chance to dress in Celtic or Roman clothing and in an auxiliary soldier’s uniform, They will handle genuine Roman artefacts that are around 2000 years old!


Workshop Two

Let’s Dig – The Romans

Subject: History & Science

Length: 1.5 – 2 hours

Key Stage: KS2

Location: Danum Gallery Library and Museum

Synopsis

Learn about the Romans through archaeology. Find out more about the techniques of an archaeological investigation, how & why an archaeologist chooses an excavation site and how this helps us to understand life in the past. During this session pupils will take part in an archaeological tray study and handle genuine and replica artefacts. They will take part in a coprolite study to find out more about the Roman diet.

Full Day (2 workshops per class): £10.30 per pupil (up to 35 pupils)  
a minimum charge of £215+VAT for a full day

Half Day (1 work shop per class): £6.20 per pupil (up to 35 pupils) 
a minimum charge of £160+VAT for a half day

Outreach Workshop

£7.20 per pupil (up to 35 pupils)
a minimum charge of £200+VAT per workshop
